Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery is commonly performed to correct the appearance of sagging eyelids and eliminate fat deposits around the eyes. Also known as blepharoplasty, there were over 200,000 eyelid surgeries performed in 2012. At Das Plastic Surgery Center, Dr. Suman Das regularly performs blepharoplasty for men and women who seek to restore a rejuvenating appearance to their eyes.

Best Candidates

Ideal candidates for eyelid surgery are individuals who are in good physical and emotional health with one or more of the following conditions:

  • Drooping upper/lower eyelids
  • Excess skin around the eyes
  • Bags underneath the eyes
  • Wrinkles or creases around the eyes

During your initial consultation, Dr. Das will ask you some questions, evaluate your medical history, and examine the skin around your eyes to help you determine if eyelid surgery can be beneficial to you.

Technique

Eyelid surgery is performed under intravenous sedation or general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Dr. Das will make tiny incisions in the natural creases of the eyelids to remove excess skin and fat deposits from the upper and lower eyelids. After the muscles and remaining skin are tightened to a more attractive contour, the incisions are closed with fine nylon sutures.

Recovery

After the procedure is complete, a lubricating ointment will be applied, and the eyes will be covered with a cold compress to reduce swelling. Any pain or discomfort that may exist during the next few days can be alleviated with prescribed medication. Most patients feel they can return to work after about a week, but strenuous exercises and activities should be avoided for at least four weeks to give the incisions time to heal. To ensure a swift and effective recovery, it is of the utmost importance that you follow Dr. Das’ postoperative instructions.
