Breast Lift

A breast lift (mastopexy), is a cosmetic procedure that uplifts and contours the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the remaining tissues. This type of surgery is usually desired by women who are content with the size of their breasts, but wish to reposition them to a more youthful appearance.

Some of the most common reasons to undergo a breast lift include:

  • Pregnancy

  • Breastfeeding

  • Aging

Best Candidates

The best candidates for a breast lift are in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the outcome of their procedure. Patients should wish to improve one or more of the following:

  • Sagging breasts

  • Nipples that point downward

  • Lack of firmness and elasticity in the breasts

Techniques

There are various incision methods that can be performed during breast lift surgery. At your initial consultation, Dr. Das will discuss your options and help you determine which technique is most beneficial for you.

Anchor Incision

An incision is made around the areola and down to the crease of the underside of the breast where it runs horizontally along the breast crease. The anchor incision is used in most cases where sagging of the breasts and drooping of the nipples is most severe.

Lollipop Incision

An incision starts around the areola and extends vertically down to the breast crease. The lollipop incision is usually performed when there is a moderate degree of sagging and excess skin is less apparent.

Periareolar Incision

An incision is made around the border of the areola. The periareolar incision is best utilized when there is little to no sagging in the breasts and excess skin is all that needs to be removed.

After Dr. Das is finished removing excess skin, the breasts and nipples will be elevated to a more youthful position.

Recovery

Breast lift surgery is typically performed on an outpatient basis. Medication will be prescribed to minimize discomfort, while a special compression garment helps reduce swelling. Although most patients feel good enough to return to work after about a week, any strenuous activity or exercise should be avoided for at least a month. To ensure a safe and speedy recovery, it is best that you follow Dr. Das’ postoperative instructions and be sure to come in for follow up appointments as needed.
